El próximo gran combate en la división de las 155 libras del UFC, es el encuentro por la unificación de los títulos que protagonizarán el campeón lineal, Khabib Nurmagomedov, y el campeón interino, Justin Gaethje. Sin embargo, esta pelea está en veremos debido al reciente fallecimiento del padre y entrenador principal de Khabib, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, por lo que el futuro de Khabib en el deporte es incierto.
El presidente del UFC, Dana White, recientemente entregó algunas declaraciones para los medios en donde se refirió a la actual situación de Khabib. Tal como ya había mencionado, Dana asegura que la compañía del Octágono no presionará a Khabib para que éste regrese y de hecho le darán tiempo para que esté de luto (vía MMANews):
Dana White: "No, no voy a molestar a Khabib. Lo voy a dejar solo hasta que él esté listo para hablar, dejaré que esté de luto y que haga lo que necesite hacer. Lo contacté el otro día y no he tenido noticias suyas desde entonces".
Dicho esto, Dana no descarta que Khabib retorne en septiembre de este año para medirse con Gaethje:
"No creo que esté fuera de discusión. Solo estoy esperando a saber de él".
(Texto en inglés): "No, I'm not messing with Khabib. I'm leaving him alone until he's ready to talk and I'm letting him mourn and do what he has to do. I reached out to him the day of and I haven't heard back from him since," Dana White said.
"I don't think it's off the table," White told the media at Fight Island on Tuesday. "I'm just waiting to hear from him."
